Case Overview

Fegan Scott is investigating claims that, since January 1, 2022,  some of the country’s largest egg producers, along with two pricing services called Urner Barry and Egg Clearinghouse, Inc. (ECI), secretly worked together to keep egg prices high. The egg producers and pricing services allegedly shared inside pricing and sales information, fed inflated numbers into the systems that help set egg prices, and used industry meetings to stay on the same page about how much to charge and how much to produce—while publicly blaming record egg prices on bird flu and rising costs. As a result, consumers across the country may have paid more for regular shell eggs than they would have in a fair and competitive market, in violation of federal and state antitrust and consumer protection laws.
