FeganScott represents a nationwide class of consumers who purchased or leased 2012–2024 model-year Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Alfa Romeo, and Ram vehicles, which have become prime targets for thieves. According to the complaint, these vehicles contain a critical Anti-Theft Security Defect that allows thieves, often with no prior experience, to bypass the ignition and immobilizer system in under two minutes using inexpensive, commercially available key-programming devices. Plaintiffs allege that this defect renders the vehicles far more vulnerable to theft than comparable vehicles on the road.
The lawsuit asserts that FCA US LLC not only sold millions of vehicles with substandard, non-compliant anti-theft systems, but also knew for years that these systems failed to meet federal safety standards and industry norms. The complaint details how theft rates for affected vehicles have skyrocketed—sometimes exceeding national averages by 20 to 60 times—resulting in property loss, safety risks, and significant financial harm to consumers. Plaintiffs further allege that the companies actively concealed the defect while publicly marketing the vehicles as safe, secure, and high-quality.
Fegan Scott brings this action to hold the automakers accountable for placing millions of drivers and families at unnecessary risk. “FCA markets its vehicles modern, advanced, and secure, but for years the automaker has known of a critical security flaw that leaves vehicle owners exposes,” said FeganScott attorney Jonathan Lindenfeld. “Owners of these vehicles that spent up to $100,000 on FCA vehicles deserved better. This litigation is about forcing FCA to address a defect and ensuring that consumers are protected from both financial loss and serious safety hazards.”
