Family of Deceased Inmate Files Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Missouri Department of Corrections

In April 2023, 37-year-old Brandon Pace died while in custody at Tipton Correctional Center after being restrained and pepper sprayed by corrections officers, who then denied him medical care as he cried out that he couldn’t breathe and needed help for more than four hours.

On September 5, 2024, Brandon’s mother filed a lawsuit against the Missouri Department of Corrections for the wrongful death of her son. FeganScott’s Lynn Ellenberger, one of the attorneys leading the suit, and Brandon’s sister, Bethany Pace, spoke with KRCG 13 about the family’s pursuit of justice.
